Report: Netflix U.S. Subscription Cancellations Surge Nearly Eightfold Amid ‘Cuties’ ‘Child Porn’ Controversy

🚨 POLL: Is Netflix wrong to sexually exploit minors?

Breitbart reported that Netflix is suffering from a spike in cancelled subscriptions after the Netflix-exclusive movie “Cuties” received heavy criticism for inappropriately using girls as young as eleven to display sexual content.

A data collection company called YipItData reported that Saturday’s cancellation rate for Netflix was eight times higher than the numbers reported in the previous month. The rates reportedly began their ascension on Thursday as many debated the appropriateness of the movie.

#CancelNetflix was a trending topic on Twitter during this time, even attracting the attention of several legislators.

YipItUpData uses a process that does not involve actual numbers reported by Netflix. They have a formula that combines several methods of evaluating Netflix’s performance and in turn, is capable of estimating the streaming giant’s subscribers.

At the close of the second quarter of June, Netflix claimed that they were collecting subscription fees from 193 million people worldwide.

Arkansas Republican, Sen. Tom Cotton offered his criticism of the new movie, suggesting that the U.S. Department of Justice should investigate Netflix for violating Sexual exploitation of children laws and “peddling child pornography”.

More from Breitbart:

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) has condemned Cuties as “child porn,” saying that Netflix is “complicit” in encouraging pedophiles and helping to fuel the child sex trafficking trade.

Netflix is standing by its decision to release the French movie, arguing that the film is actually a “social commentary” against the sexualization of children. Not buying it, Sen. Cotton tweeted Tuesday that protecting children should take precedence over “art.”

“We all have a duty to protect the children under our care,” the senator tweeted. “When adults fail in that duty, young lives are harmed, predators are emboldened, and society itself is coarsened as a consequence. No ‘art’ or ‘social commentary’ can justify such a moral outrage.”…
