In the midst of historically-contentious times, the Super Bowl was a much-needed break from politics.

And while there were plenty of opportunities for artists and athletes alike to make statements, they refrained instead—which America proved to be immensely grateful for.

In fact, one of the best moments of the night came before the game had even started, when, as Luke Bryan sang the National Anthem and players stood facing the flag with their hands on their hearts, cameras cut to a remarkable sight overseas.
