You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry….
It cracks me up when we’re busying around the house in the morning before school and someone’s choosing their outdoor gear, asking, “Anyone know what the weather is today?” We’re standing by the door, looking out the window, but still you’ll see heads bow and thumbs tap to find a weather app on our phones…so we can see what it’s doing outside. There are times when it might be sunny outside but the speediest Googler looks up and confidently says, “It’s snowing. Wear a parka.”
Relying on faulty information. Especially when we have access to the truth. What the heck are we thinking?
I guess that’s the point. A lot of us go through life without actually thinking, without seeing what’s really going on around us. We rely on messages from the culture (or from Google), and we go along with the crowd. That’s an easy way to get lost in a spiritual wilderness.
“Keep the Faith!” isn’t a platitude I like to write below my autograph. Keeping the faith is the hard work of the Gospel. When we’re lost, God whispers through His written Word, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…Lean not on your own understanding…” Our own understanding just doesn’t cut it, especially when we have access to true wisdom. Trust in God.
Sweet Freedom in Action
Today, resolve not to be guided by the drift of popular culture or questionable information from the mass media, but turn to God, who never fails to strengthen and comfort.
