Former President Barack Obama’s decision to accept $400,000 for a recent speech he gave on healthcare is facing criticism.
Per Fox News:
Democratic Party leaders and grass roots activists alike are at a loss to explain how the onetime champion of the 99 percent could cash in with a September address at a health care conference run by investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald.
Fellow Democrat, Senator Elizabeth Warren, is also condemning the decision.
Warren on Thursday said during an appearance on the SiriusXM radio show “Alter Family Politics” that she is “troubled” by Obama’s decision. She did not elaborate on Obama’s speaking fee but expressed concern about money in politics.
“The influence of dollars on this place is what scares me,” she said. “I think it ultimately threatens democracy.”
