This is what the Lord commands: When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his work but must do everything he said.
Promises made, contributions accepted, votes counted. The newly elected are sworn in, then sworn at. Why? Because some politicians’ actions in office contradict campaign promises. Bad enough. But it becomes truly cringeworthy when they attempt to legitimize these broken promises with these three words “I have evolved.” This gives public service a bad name.
With today’s complicit media condoning their favored ones’ flip-flops while condemning citizens who hold them accountable, more than ever Newt Gingrich’s words ring true: “The destructive, vicious, negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern this country, harder to attract decent people to run for office.”
But “decent people” know they have an obligation – a duty – to serve regardless of media double standards. Luke 12 tells us, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Being an American gives us an automatic head start in this world. Be thankful for it, and do something with it.
Sweet Freedom in Action
Each of us has a role to play in making this a better nation, whether it’s by serving in the military, holding public office, or even supporting a worthy charity. Whatever you are called to do, do it, get involved, do something for America, and be true to God by staying true to your word – and His!Note: The author of this article has included commentary that expresses an opinion and analysis of the facts.
