SWEET FREEDOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: Thanking God For Food When Your Pantry Is Empty

Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
Psalm 81:10
In 1836, George Mueller, the pastor of a small church in England, saw homeless children on the streets. He wanted to do something for them, but he and his wife couldn’t afford to take care of so many children in their rented home.
Instead of giving up on the idea, Mueller decided to pray. For everything. He prayed for a building, for chairs, for a certain number of beds, and for books. You name it, God provided it all, and the Muellers began an orphanage.
One day, the housemother told Mueller they’d run out of food. He calmly instructed the children to sit at the table. He took their hands and thanked God for breakfast…in a house without food! Then, they waited.
Soon, they heard a knock at the door. It was a baker. For some reason, he felt like they would need bread. So, he got up early to bake several batches for them. Just as they were about to eat, he heard another knock. The milkman! His cart had collapsed in front of their orphanage and the milk would spoil before he could repair his wheel. He then brought in ten huge jugs of milk – exactly the amount they needed.
The Muellers went on to take care of more than ten thousand orphans over the years.
