It is being reported that the Olympic Games will be coming to the United States in the summer of 2028.
The hosting city, Los Angeles, was in a bidding war with Paris, France to host the 2024 Summer Games.
International Olympic leaders announced the city which did not get the bid for the 2024 games, would host the next Summer Games – allowing both cities to be hosts.
Per Daily Mail:
Los Angeles has reached an agreement with international Olympic leaders to host the 2028 Summer Games.
The southern California city had been making a bid for the 2024 games, but decided to take the later date and give the 2024 games to Paris.
City Council President Herb Wesson’s office on Monday confirmed the deal. Spokeswoman Caolinn Mejza says the pact is expected to be reviewed by the council later this week.
The two cities had good individual arguments for hosting the 2024 games:
A formal announcement about which city would host and when was not expected until the International Olympic Committee’s meeting in September in Lima, Peru.
The Los Angeles committee had argued that it could host a low-cost Olympics given that it already has all the necessary infrastructure in place, while Paris would need to build several expensive structures.

But recent bids by Paris had been passed over and many felt the French capital was due to get the nod for the 2024 Games, which will mark 100 years since the last time it hosted the games.
In an unusual move, both bids were accepted for differing Olympic games:
The International Olympic Committee made the unusual announcement in June that both cities were such strong candidates, that whichever didn’t get the 2024 bid would get to host the next games in 2028.
The Paris committee was fiercely against the idea, but the Los Angeles committee said they were willing to take the later date, if some concessions were made, such as getting funding for operations and youth programs in the city.
Garcetti in June had indicated that while Los Angeles would prefer to host the Games in 2024, it was not opposed to playing host in 2028.
The details of the agreement have not been made public yet, so it’s unclear whether the Los Angeles committee was able to get any of the concessions they wanted.
