…not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another….
You’ll let me be real in this devotional, right?
For years, it’s been somewhat of a struggle to get it all together on Sunday mornings to see our whole brood inside four walls of a conventional local church. For a variety of reasons, it’s not been easy to get emotionally engaged or rooted in one church building this past decade while on a public roller coaster ride, reasons including the haters who attack churches we may attend – which is entirely unfair to the church. I’m not using anything to excuse absences, because I do want my kids growing up in Sunday school as my siblings and I did. I love church leaders and congregants who are in it for the right reasons.
Confession is good for the soul., and I know I need to try harder to get plugged in to a good church body. Heaven forbid I get even closer to becoming a CEO – you know, a Christmas and Easter Only churchgoer.
The Apostle Paul says that being a Christian entails certain actions that require other people. For example, he says to be baptized, to “eat together at the Lord’s table,” and to stay connected to Jesus through the church body. Kinda hard to do that at Starbucks.
Sweet Freedom in Action
Today, vow to get your butt – and the butts of your family and friends – back into the pews at church. I’ll try too.
