She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
Some people think the Proverbs 31 woman is a meek, quiet, submissive little thing. Yet this verse speaks of strength, dignity, and hard work! A passive, silent woman is not what God has in mind.
And, boy, am I glad!
My Alaskan women friends are amazing examples of the gal in this passage. Women here hunt, fish, chop wood, plow snow, fix four-wheelers, set up camp, and play sweaty, messy sports. Women and men seem so equal in the Last Frontier! And real men aren’t threatened by strong women.
Secular culture tells us that we need to be more like men in order to be successful, still claiming “it’s a man’s world.” Segments of Christian culture tell us we need to be quiet and passive to be righteous.
Yet, when Solomon wrote about the ideal woman in Proverbs 31, he described a woman who was 100 percent feminine and 100 percent strong and dynamic at the same time. So it’s not impossible! We should strive to raise girls to know they can be both!
