Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret – it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.
Ever look at your neighbor’s yard and see that their grass is John Deere green while yours is grizzly bear brown? That they boast of cheating on taxes and their car is spanking new while your old beater has an inch of rust on it and petrified chicken nuggets in it? Have you wondered why that yahoo in the next cubicle over earns more money? And while he ignores the passed hat during office parties, he still nickel-and-dimes the business to death? Sometimes it seems that society rewards the unethical and doesn’t much care about those who play by the rules.
But when we focus on those around us who prosper even though they aren’t living right, it skews our perspective.
Here’s the truth. Whatever you have – even if it’s that threadbare quilt from your grandmother or a minivan held together with “Vote Anybody but a Liberal” bumper stickers – your life of virtue will be more profitable than living for yourself. God may allow people a temporary prosperity or triumph, but those devoted to following Him will get a heavenly reward. Trust God to deal with the jerk in the BMW who cut you off in traffic; your final inheritance will be a doozy.
