May God Himself the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
When we repent of sins, we’re justified by the Spirit and receive forgiveness. But we still live in mortal bodies in a fallen world, so we still fall short. Sanctification is a big word for something simple: becoming like Christ. Hopefully, we become more sanctified every day and can claim stronger faith than in our past. That’s a good reason why us Sourdoughs shouldn’t want to go back to our twenties for anything!
Though we’re all in the process of being sanctified, we won’t quite grasp it until we come face to face with Jesus Himself. Religious leaders peddle promises – You, too, can be spiritually awesome if you just…take your pick: have more Bible time, find an accountability partner, pray thirty minutes per day, tithe to this mission, buy that Christian book, But there’s no shortcut to sanctification. It’s the most basic thing and the most complicated thing you’ll ever do. Die to self. Gain the world.
Sweet Freedom in Action
Hang in there as He shapes and sanctifies you. There are no shortcuts.
