Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
In the midst of a storm in our lives, we’re very likely to panic. But we shouldn’t, because, we’re not alone. God is always there with us, and He knows what to do.
A verse in Psalm 107 says, “He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven.”
When visiting wives of deployed troops, and hearing of the logistical practical financial, and fear-laden hassles clouding their day, I try to encourage them with the words that can also help you in stormy situations; “When I’m in the storm, the storm is not in me.”
That’s the thing – there’s no way we can avoid life’s storms. But what we can control is our reaction to them – and the best way to do that is to put our trust in God.
Sweet Freedom in Action
Today, remember that God is our salvation through every storm. He will see us safely into His heavenly port.
