Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.”
Naturally, as humans, we focus on what we can see – and what we can see is sometimes depressing, whether it’s the decline of our culture or the seemingly endless fight against Islamic terrorism. As these battles never seem won, it can seem as if all our prayers for America’s spiritual health, or for peace, are for nothing.
The truth is, God hears our prayers, but the political battles we see are part of a far bigger war, a spiritual war that is constantly being waged between good and evil, God and the devil. We’re only seeing shadowy glimpses of it; but what we do see can illuminate the fact that the battle takes time.
The Soviet Union existed for decades before it collapsed. Radical Islam has been a threat to Christianity for well over a thousand years. Our own domestic culture war will continue until America enjoys another Great Awakening.
The thing to remember is that through all these struggles, prayer is ammunition. Even when we’re sitting on our sofa at home, we can fight evil by praying. Prayer is a power that’s in all our hands. So lock and load.
