…set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
I’m so thankful I’ve had the honor of serving as a mayor, as president of a conference of mayors, as a governor, as a chair or co-chair of many commissions, as a Republican vice presidential nominee. I’ve been at all levels of politics, and I can say this without doubt: from your house to the White House, the character of those who lead matters.
It establishes a standard for others to follow. Nadab caused Israel to sin after he followed in the footsteps of his sinful father (1 Kings 15:26). Josiah emulated David and pleased God (2 Kings 22:2). Many of our nation’s problems can be solved if we elect the right person to lead. Throughout this devotional I will emphasize the importance of prayerful discernment and of taking an active role in politics. Sadly, there are some politicians who cannot be taken at their word – even some who claim to be conservative or Christian. We must carefully research candidates and hold our leaders accountable.
Be an informed voter and vote soberly and prayerfully.
Sweet Freedom in Action
Today, pray that God will raise up leaders who will stand on His principles and put us on the right path. At work and at home, wherever you have a leadership role, work to be God’s kind of leader.
