Coors Light, It Is

Barley and hops aficionados, some are asking if this doesn’t give you a hankering for a cold Coors Light, then what does?

First, good on Budweiser’s founder. Glad he dreamed, arrived, worked hard, and respected America’s rule of law. Great success story and I’m glad it’s to be told, reportedly, in a Super Bowl beer commercial.

But ad gurus who’d twist that inspiring “melting pot” story into anything but what it is will soon see viewers do more than roll their eyes – they’ll speak with their wallets.

Reading background on the upcoming commercial (previewers call it a mini-political documentary), of course it could be taken as further roughing the supporters of today’s American security measures and legal immigration. Some say that’s the intent.

If so, bad call.

Regardless of this particular ad’s intended receiver, it’s indisputable the NFL has strayed from a level playing field on to liberal political sidelines, violating viewers’ sensibilities and trying their patience.

NFL – that’s acting stupidly.

C’mon commentators, flag kneelers and advertisers, please, can you give us a break for just one afternoon? Please? Fan support will keep tanking if you keep rushing from traditionally non-political, patriotic, uplifting messaging that is an aspect of our love of sport.

Super Bowl Sunday isn’t the time nor place for continued politicking. Trust me on this, pro franchises – speaking as your average Joe Six Pack sports nut – or find out yourself when fans vote with their remote controls.

Here’s to a great game anyway, good food, grins through notoriously funny Super Bowl commercials… and bring on the Clydesdales.
