Day Before Virginia’s Election, Trump Tweets His Support

President Donald Trump has kept the Virginia governor race on the back burner over the past few days, but just tweeted out in support of Republican candidate Ed Gillespie.

He tweeted, “The state of Virginia economy, under Democrat rule, has been terrible. If you vote Ed Gillespie tomorrow, it will come roaring back!”

Trump’s support for the candidate comes the night before Virginians will flock to the polls tomorrow.

The critical race has been tightly contested in the polls, per Politico:

Polls showed a tightening race in Virginia between Gillespie, the former Republican National Committee chairman, and Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the Democratic nominee. A Fox News poll released Monday showed Northam leading by a five-point margin over Gillespie, 48 to 43, in a race that has tightened in recent weeks.

Rasmussen Reports scored the race much closer, a “dead even” 45% as of a few days ago:

The Virginia governor’s race is dead even four days before Election Day.

A new Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Virginia Voters finds Republican Ed Gillespie and Democrat Ralph Northam each earning 45% support. Two percent (2%) prefer Libertarian candidate Cliff Hyra.
