President Donald Trump is hosting a “Time Honored Tradition” themed White House Christmas party, inviting mainstream media outlets to join in on the holiday celebrations.

CNN said they would be boycotting the event, but “will send a White House reporting team” should they find it necessary.

Here’s the story, per the Hill:

CNN will boycott this week’s White House Christmas party amid ongoing tensions between President Trump and the network.

“In light of the President’s continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN, we do not feel it is appropriate to celebrate with him as invited guests,” a spokesperson for the network told The Hill.

“We will send a White House reporting team to the event and report on it if news warrants,” the spokesperson added in a statement.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders quickly responded to the boycott announcement.

She tweeted, “Christmas comes early! Finally, good news from @CNN.”

Ouch.

Trump has been particularly outspoken about CNN in recent days.

He joked that mainstream media outlets should hold a contest, with the winner taking home a “fake news trophy.”

He tweeted, “We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!”

He also tweeted, “[email protected] is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!”
