It’s Official: Trump Vs Romney

Monday morning, President Donald Trump backed Republican candidate Roy Moore in the Alabama’s U.S. Senate race.

Trump has criticized Moore’s opponent, Democrat Doug Jones, but has not specifically endorsed Moore.

The President tweeted, “Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama. We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!”

Shortly after, Moore accepted the endorsement, thanking the president for his support:

Later in the day, Moore said the two men exchanged a phone conversation.

He tweeted, “Just got off the phone with President Trump who offered his full support and said he needs a fighter to help him in the US Senate.”

Former presidential nominee Mitt Romney looked to contest Trump’s support of Moore.

He said the Alabama Republican, amid the allegations of sexual misconduct, would “be a stain on the GOP.”

Romney said, “Roy Moore in the US Senate would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation. Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity.”

Here’s how some people responded to Romney’s tweet:

Moore also responded to Romney’s comment, tweeting “Either @MittRomney has lost his courage or he doesn’t care about truth anymore. Sad day! America’s reawakening was led by @realDonaldTrump, not you Mitt.”
