Former Guantanamo Bay Detainee Was Just Claimed By Islamic State For Doing THIS…

British jihadist Abu-Zakariya al-Britani—who was born Ronald Fiddler—detonated a suicide bomb in an attack targeting Iraqi forces last week. Fiddler was a former Guantanamo Bay detainee.

The Islamic State claimed the attack two days ago and has since published a photo of Fiddler.

Check it out (via BBC):

He had been seized by US forces in Pakistan in 2001, before being sent to Guantanamo.

US interrogators found he provided useful information to them about the Taliban’s methods, and he was released after two years.

The Daily Mail reported Fiddler received a million pounds in compensation from the government when he came back to the UK.

  1. So, let me get this straight: A British citizen, Ronald Fiddler, aka Abu-Zakariya al-Britani, is captured by American Forces in Pakistan. Because he’s a terrorist combatant, he gets sent to Gitmo where, because he provides useful information, he gets released and goes home to the United Kingdom. Again, apparently because he provided useful information, the UK gives him a million pounds as a reward, compensating him for the time he was imprisoned as a terrorist. Then, a million pounds richer, he goes to Iraq and, presumably after giving his fortune to whatever jihadi group with which he had then re-affiliated himself, he blows himself up (Human casualties not stated.) in an attack on Iraqi Forces. Did I get this all correctly?

Surely, I’m not alone in thinking that there’s something — several things! — wrong with this picture!

    1. If he’s given all the “useful information” he can, why release him to go back to what he was doing as a terrorist combatant? Is there some reason he couldn’t disappear en route to the UK? En route back to Iraq?
    2. Just why is the UK rewarding terrorist combatants for being caught?
    3. A million freaking pounds‽ Are our Brit friends out of their minds?
    4. Why is a presumed ally financing terrorism and supporting terrorists?
    5. [There’s more, but my opinions get a bit gory from here on out!]

      • Yes, Obama released many Guantanamo detainees, but he didn’t release this particular terrorist. Read the article again —> “He had been seized by US forces in Pakistan in 2001, before being sent to Guantanamo. US interrogators found he provided useful information to them about the Taliban’s methods, and he was released after **two** years.” So, when he was released in 2003, Bush was President.

        • mom210js – I suppose the jackass in the Oval Office for the past 8 years shouldn’t be given credit for releasing one of his friends when he didn’t do that. There’s plenty more discrediting information with which to hang him(?).

      • John Wellwood – The 5 he released and only got one [alleged] traitor in exchange definitely showed he lacked haggling skills, I agree! And yet, as much as I can’t support an unqualified candidate “winning” an election for which he couldn’t be on the ballot lawfully, this particular terrorist wasn’t one of his friends, to the best of my knowledge.
