In 2016, NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick made national headlines when he refused to stand for the national anthem in order to protest against police brutality.
He was immediately ostracized and soon found himself out of a job and out of favor with many of his fans.
Now, he has changed his tune.

Per ESPN’s Schefter, Kaepernick is ending the protest because he does not want to “detract from the positive change that he believes has been created,” but the timing of the announcement makes it obvious that the quarterback wants to separate himself from the distraction and controversy.
