GOP Working On Obamacare Behind Closed Doors And It’s NOT Going Smoothly…

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 10: Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) emerges from a closed-door weekly policy meeting with Senate Republicans, at the U.S. Capitol, May 10, 2016, in Washington, DC. Republicans in Congress have been tasked with fulfilling Donald Trump’s campaign promise of a full repeal and replace of Obamacare.

So far, things aren’t exactly going smoothly.

Rand Paul, who has put forward the strongest plan to repeal and replace the disastrous healthcare law, has apparently been shut out of the process.

From Bloomberg:

House Republicans thought they were writing a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare. Instead, on Thursday, they found themselves running a traveling circus.

Following reports that a major chunk of their health-care legislation was being held for House GOP review in a secret room somewhere in the Capitol complex, Democrats and Republicans who hadn’t been invited started the hunt. Senator Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, was first on the scene of the supposed secret location.

“It’s the secret office of the secret bill,” Paul told a gaggle of reporters. After being denied entry by a security guard and staff aide, he quickly turned the moment into an impromptu press conference about legislation transparency.

“I suspect public pressure will make them release it,” he said.

Here’s more.

From Hot Air:

The document is being treated a bit like a top-secret surveillance intercept. It is expected to be available to members and staffers on the House Energy and Commerce panel starting Thursday, but only in a dedicated reading room, one Republican lawmaker and a committee aide said. Nobody will be given copies to take with them…

Republican leaders are trying to avoid a repeat of what happened last time. When an outdated draft leaked last week, it was quickly panned by conservatives…

“The draft of it is going to be available tomorrow for those of us on the health subcommittee to start poring through,” said Representative Chris Collins of New York, a Trump ally and member of the health subcommittee of Energy and Commerce. “Unfortunately for you, we’re making sure it won’t be leaked.”

Not exactly an encouraging sign.

Hopefully, everyone gets on the same page soon.

  1. Until such time as a bill goes to the Senate, Rand Paul has no frigging right to anything from the House of Reps. He needs to get his job description read to him so he’ll know, he’s not running the House. What the Representatives do in closed session, behind closed doors, is none or Rand Pauls business. Period. Until such matters go to the Senate.

  3. My healthcare plan would be the best. Everyone just dont get sick. My wife says I am stupid. My girlfriend says the same thing. My boyfriend says it as well. I wish someone would waterboard me and give me shock treatment. I am a horrible person and should be walking around with a black eye. I watch porn because my wife is ugly. Thank you have a nice day.

  4. Howabout this? Have 2 plans, one free enterprise based and one Obamacare based. Of a person chooses Obamacare then it is an irrevocable choice.
