Unfortunately, eighteen Republicans sided with Democrats over the issue.
The 2024 Department of Defense Appropriations Act would have barred taxpayer dollars from funding Pentagon-sponsored “Pride Month” celebrations.
Rep. Chip Roy of Texas introduced the measure to prohibit funds going toward “the observance of Pride Month authorized by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness for the Cultural Observance and Awareness Events List.”
The he amendment failed 231-202. 18 Republicans sided with Democrats and four declined to vote. (Trending: The Failures of Joe Biden Are In Full Bloom)
The Department of Defense first began celebrating “pride month” in June of 2012.
“I’m sure the Chinese military is quaking in its boots with the rainbow-tipped bullets being tweeted around the world,” Roy said.
Yesterday, the Pentagon hosted its 12th Annual LGBTQ+ Pride Ceremony. We celebrate the honor and service, commitment, and sacrifice of our LGBTQ+ service members. The DoD is committed to inclusion and using diversity as a strength for our Services.
