The Mayor of Berkeley, Jesse Arreguin, is a public supporter of the violent, far-left group “BAMN,” an acronym for ‘By Any Means Necessary.” According to BAMN’s Facebook page, the group stands for “The Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration & Immigrant Rights, and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary (BAMN).” BAMN has engaged in violence in the past, and has ties to the violent, radical left-wing “antifa” movement.
From The Daily Caller:
BAMN has been involved in violence before, such as in Sacramento, California, where BAMN member Yvette Felarca attacked a protestor and punched him in the stomach several times outside of a white nationalist group’s rally.
Felarca is also a public middle school teacher, and has faced calls for her employment to be terminated.
When Milo Yiannopoulos was supposed to speak at UC Berkeley, Arreguin tweeted this:
Using speech to silence marginalized communities and promote bigotry is unacceptable. Hate speech isn't welcome in our community.

Milo’s speech that night was cancelled after violent Antifa rioters caused violence and destruction on campus.
Since being the birth place of the Free Speech Movement of the 1960’s, Berkeley has been mostly hostile to conservative viewpoints, most recently, trying to shut down Ann Coulter’s speaking engagement at UC Berkeley at the end of the month.
