Rookie Congressman Helped Saved Obamacare Repeal With Heartbreaking Story..

Congressman Tom MacArthur helped the American Healthcare Act pass the House of Representatives through an amendment which was largely inspired by his family.

He says the struggle he and his family had to endure when his daughter Gracie was born with a rare condition encouraged him to fix the existing legislation.

Per Independent Journal Review:

While MacArthur is filled with loving memories of his late daughter, what he is also reminded of the enormous amount of money it cost his family to care for Gracie.

According to NBC, MacArthur noted, “I had insurance, but it doesn’t cover everything.”

And because of Gracie’s expensive medical costs, much of which the family had to bear due to the way insurance coverage was structured under Obamacare, MacArthur wanted to see an effective change in health care law that would prevent other families from facing the same ordeal.

In an interview with CNN, MacArthur affirmed that his role as a Representative is not to just “decorate a chair”:

During an interview with CNN Thursday afternoon, just moments after the house voted to pass the AHCA, the New Jersey House member became emotional during an interview when asked if his daughter Gracie was an inspiration to get so deeply involved with health care reform.

When the reporter noted that the congressman could potentially lose his seat for working to repeal Obamacare, MacArthur said he said he ran for office to solve problems, not to “decorate a chair.”
