South Korea confirmed Thursday that North Korea is developing a nuclear warhead much more rapidly than was initially anticipated, per the Washington Times.
The south’s Defense Minister, Han Min-koo, said the missile launched on Sunday that had the capacity to carry a warhead as far as a target on U.S. mainland.

“It is considered an intermediate range ballistic missile of enhanced caliber compared to Musudan missiles that have continually failed,” he said, reported Reuters.
North Korea has issued propaganda on the missile test, saying it was intended to determine whether the missile could carry a nuclear warhead as well as a reentry vehicle.
The north has additionally noted that nuclear weapons development will continue “as long as the United States continues its hostile policies toward the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”
