UPDATE: Majority Whip Scalise Undergoes Third Surgery, Condition Remains Critical

Majority Whip Steve Scalise has now had a third surgery following the shooting rampage on Congressional Republicans on Wednesday morning, per CBS.

Scalise has been in critical condition since he was shot in the hip.

The Louisiana Republican’s office confirmed the third surgery, which took place at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I trauma center. As of Thursday morning, he was still in critical condition.

A release was sent on the details of his injury:

“He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations,” the statement said.

A single bullet traveled across Scalise’s pelvis, fractured bones, injured internal organs and caused severe bleeding, the hospital said, and he was transported in shock to the medical center.

Three others were shot on Wednesday, all of whom are in stable condition.

The assailant was shot and died later at the hospital.

President Trump and First Lady Melania visited the hospital on Wednesday evening.
