Here’s What Everyone Is Saying About The FBI Raid On Office, Home Of Trump’s Personal Attorney

On Monday evening, the FBI conducted a raid of President Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen. According to reports, the decision was made by the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Included in the raid was Cohen’s home, office and hotel room.

Information pertaining to alleged payments made to pornstar Stormy Daniels was reportedly seized. In recent months, Daniels has accused the President of having an affair, claims to have sensitive photos or a video of Trump, and has alleged the President and his lawyers paid her for her silence.

On Tuesday morning, Trump tweeted, “Attorney–client privilege is dead!” and called the continued investigation by Mueller “A TOTAL WITCH HUNT!!!”

Per Fox News:

The FBI raided President Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen’s home, office and hotel room Monday to seize a collection of documents — a development that Trump slammed as “a disgrace.”

Federal agents reportedly obtained documents related to several issues, including his payments to adult-film star Stormy Daniels in the weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

“Today the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients,” Cohen’s attorney Stephen Ryan said in a statement Monday. “I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller.”

Here’s more, per the Hill:

Cohen’s lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said in a statement that federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained a search warrant after receiving a referral “in part” from special counsel Robert Mueller. Ryan called the search “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.”

Among the materials agents secured are those related to Cohen’s $130,000 payment to Daniels as part of a nondisclosure agreement related to her alleged 2006 affair with Trump.

The payment went through just days before the 2016 election. Cohen has admitted to paying Daniels, but denied it violated campaign finance laws.

Last week, Trump denied knowing about the payment. It was the first time he had addressed the issue publicly.

The Daily Caller has more from what Trump said about the raid:

“It’s a disgraceful situation,” Trump said of the reported raid. “I have this witch hunt constantly going on… It’s an attack on on our country…what we all stand for.”

“The most conflicted group of people I have ever seen,” Trump said of Mueller’s team. “That is a whole new level of unfairness.”

“They’re not looking at the other side,” Trump lamented, referencing his former opponent Hillary Clinton’s own legal troubles.

“The Attorney General made a terrible mistake when he recused himself,” Trump also declared.

Trump also called the continued investigation an “attack on the country.” Check it out:

Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley argues the raid is a test for Trump and warns him to proceed with caution: “The president has to be very careful. The greatest danger that he faces is not Michael Cohen as defendant but Michael Cohen as bait.”

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton commented similarly to Trump that the politicized investigation is getting “out of control.”

“The DOJ is out of control,” Fitton said. “Mueller seems to be running the show on many issues, including directing DOJ resources to raid the lawyer of the President seemingly over a modest issues of whether or not there was a campaign finance issue.”

On Mueller’s continued investigation, former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino said, “This Mueller witch-hunt is clearly a smokescreen to distract from both Hillary’s misdeeds and Obamagate spying. This is an abomination of ‘justice.'”

Republican Senator Raid Paul said, “Going after someone’s personal attorney is a great overstep, I think, in the authority of the prosecutor.”
