Trump Woos Tax Crowd: ‘This Is Now America First’

On Saturday, President Trump held a roundtable discussion on tax reform and the current state of the United States tax system. The discussion was held in Cleveland, Ohio and the president was quick to compliment the state that he importantly won during the 2016 presidential election.

“You have to win the great state of Ohio, and did we win the great state of Ohio,” Trump said. “We just had a couple of meetings… We have great, great people in this state. This is a very, very special place.”

During the discussion, Trump touched on trade negotiations with China and said the United States was “going to have to rework trade with China.” And, speaking of other trade deficits with countries around the globe, “We’re going to keep a lot of friends but they’re going to respect us again.”

He also mentioned the ongoing peace talks with North Korea before beginning the tax policy discussion. “We’re doing very well on, as you know, North Korea,” Trump said. “We have a meeting set up, we have the location all done, we have the time and place all finished now.”

“We broke 4% yesterday,” Trump said of the historic unemployment level, which scored at 3.9 percent. “We want to get our workers back. We want to make our product here. This is America First now, folks. This is now America First.

“Our borders are and our laws are a mess. Our immigration laws are a disgrace. And Mexico has very some of the toughest immigration laws in the world. You can’t just go into Mexico – but they allow these people to come up through Mexico and into our country!” the president said, before criticizing Democrats on the issue. “They want open borders. We have to have borders. If you don’t have borders, then you don’t have a country.”

Trump added, “Our borders are and our laws are a mess. Our immigration laws are a disgrace. And Mexico has very some of the toughest immigration laws in the world. You can’t just go into Mexico – but they allow these people to come up through Mexico and into our country!

The president also praised the tax cut legislation he signed into law before the end of his first year, the largest tax reform bill of the 21st century.

Other people spoke during the roundtable discussion including Sharlene Thorton who thanked Trump for signing the tax reform into law, business owner Sherry Sheely, United States Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta and Ohio Congressman Jim Renacci. Check out their statements below:
