Trump Taunts Eagles Team With 5 Words After Disinviting Them From The White House

As per tradition, President Trump cordially invited the Superbowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles to the White House. Following a controversial season of politicizing football and National Anthem protests, the event could have been a warm gesture ahead of next year’s games.

But, the Eagles did not wish to play ball. So Trump rescinded the invite.

Instead, Trump announced there will be a patriotic ceremony held on Tuesday afternoon in place of the scheduled visit.

Dubbed the “Celebration of America” ceremony, there will reportedly be the playing of the National Anthem by the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus.

Ahead of the event, Trump taunted the Eagles in a tweet on Tuesday morning and said there would be no place to hide away from the patriotism: “No escaping to Locker Rooms!”

“We will proudly be playing the National Anthem and other wonderful music celebrating our Country today at 3 P.M., The White House, with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus. Honoring America! NFL, no escaping to Locker Rooms!” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.

According to reports, Trump disinvited the team after only a small group of players were willing to attend.

“The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!” the president tweeted.

As Fox News reports, following the controversial year, the NFL has since changed its policy and will no longer allow future Anthem protests:

Last month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the league would fine teams and league personnel who do not “stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem.” Goodell said the league unanimously agreed to the vote, though San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York abstained.

The new overhaul does allow players to remain in the locker room for the anthem.

Trump has praised the new policy, but his Eagles decision — and swipe Tuesday at those who stay in the locker room — reflects ongoing tension between his White House and players protesting police violence by sitting out the national anthem.

The White House has warmly welcomed several teams over the past 18 months, including the New England Patriots, the Chicago Cubs, and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

“We have had many Championship teams recently at the White House including the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Penguins, New England Patriots, Alabama and Clemson National Champions, and many others. National Anthem & more great music today at 3:00 P.M.” Trump said in a tweet.
