Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin said an election between him and President Trump, whom Baldwin is well-known for impersonating, would be an easily won contest.
During a radio interview with Howard Stern on “The Howard Stern Show,” Baldwin said he would “absolutely” win in a hypothetical match with Trump.
“I can only think of a couple people who could run,” Baldwin said before the host cut in and said he knew one person who could run and win: Baldwin himself.
“If I ran, I would win,” the actor said, as LA Times reports.
Stern, somewhat shocked by the immediate and confident answer asked, “You would?”
“I would absolutely win, 1,000 percent I would win,” Baldwin replied.
The two men then joked about Baldwin having to miss time hosting the celebrity game show, Match Game. Baldwin also jokingly said, in his Trump impersonating voice, that if he were president he would take the entire summer off and spend some time in East Hampton.
The radio host then asked his guest if he would run as Donald Trump, putting his act on the grandest stage of them all, “that way everybody would have everything.”
“If I ran for president I would win. Hands down I would win. It would be the funniest, most exciting, most crazy campaign,” the actor replied.
Here’s more, per LA Times:
Baldwin and Stern could only think of a few people who could beat Trump in a future White House contest, which is why Stern put Baldwin’s name in the hat in the first place, positing that the actor could be “the hope of the Democratic Party.”
“I’m not,” the politically outspoken star asserted.
Baldwin said he would run “because people don’t really have a sense of who is going to come up.”
“Somebody great is going to come up, I hope. But the only reason I say it is because I’d love to run for that kind of position — to just have things be very common-sense,” he said. “There’s so many things this country needs to do that are so obvious.”
Check it out:
As the Democrat Party fails to find a unifying message of a candidate they are willing to throw their support behind, several names have been offered up as potential candidates. These include Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick, and television mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Several people were quick to suggest a presidential bid would not be as easy as Baldwin claims.
“Your sure you’d win? Everyone (YOU) said that about Hillary but….hahaha,” one user commented.
Another user replied, “Trump is already doing the common sense things. You play Trump on SNL but I think you want to be Trump. And our country is not something you can be joking around having fun. We have real problems that our president takes seriously!! This isn’t a Hollywood script!!”
And, “OMG! Please, please, please run, Alec!!!! Also, make Robert De Niro your running mate! LMAO!!!!!”
His Trump impersonation is funny but let’s not go overboard.
