History Made: The Original Gerber Baby, Now 91, Meets And Holds Newest Icon

The woman who is known across generations as the original Gerber baby made history recently when she met and held the newest face of the company.

Ann Turner Cook, who is now 91-years-old, held the recent winner of the Gerber baby contest, one-year-old Lucas Warren. The two met in her Tampa, Florida home where they shared a few endearing photos together.

The two people, who are both known for their smiles, quickly formed a special bond during the historic meeting.

As Daily Mail reports, Cook has retired from a career as a teacher and author.

Here’s more:

The ‘life-changing’ meeting was made possible by Gerber since the infant’s family was in the area enjoying a vacation.

‘As soon as we walked into the room, (Cook) and Lucas immediately bonded,’ parents Cortney and Jason said in a statement to Today.com.

‘Lucas walked right up to her, flashing his signature smile and waving, and we could tell he loved her right away.’

Lucas was said to have then grabbed two cookies and offered one to the woman.

“My grandmother was the Gerber baby,” grandson Chris Colin wrote on social media. “It was a funny bit of trivia, never made her rich or got us free strained peas or anything. But last week she got to meet the company’s newest spokesbaby, named Lucas. Pretty pretttty cute.”

“Ann Turner Cook is truly a wonderful woman and pleasure to be around, and we couldn’t be more grateful that she took the time to meet with our family,” Lucas’ parents told Today.

According to the Gerber Baby Contest website, Gerber first trademarked Cook’s face for the company in 1931, three years after a family friend, Dorothy Hope Smith, drew the then-infant and submitted it to the company.

Gerber loved the sketch and used Cook as the adorable Gerber baby icon. The company continues to use the contest to find their new members, with the newest being Young Lucas. “Lucas grew legions of fans when his adorable photos first made waves in February,” Daily Mail reports. “He recently finished his first campaign with the company, title ‘Make Every Little Bite Count.'”
