Grassley SNAPS On Democrat Protests: ‘How Long Are All You Going To Keep This Up?’

The confirmation hearing for Judge Brett Kavanaugh has turned into nothing less than that of a dumpster fire and it is only day one of an entire week of the scheduled hearing process.

Democrats are protesting, citizens sitting in on the committee are protesting, citizens outside of the committee are protesting. It’s a disaster.

From the Daily Caller:

Chaos gripped the opening moments of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing Tuesday, as Democratic senators attempted to delay proceedings while protestors heckled Republican lawmakers.

As GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, gave his opening statement, Democrats urged the panel to adjourn and delay the hearing, in view of the release of 42,000 documents relating to Kavanaugh’s prior service in the executive branch on Monday night.

“We cannot possibly move forward, Mr. Chairman,” Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris of California said, arguing that the hearing should be delayed until those records were reviewed.

Chairman Grassley finally put his foot down and criticized his Democrat colleagues on the committee. “How long are you going to keep this up,” he asked.

Grassley said he has remained patient with his opposition but he would not allow the committee to evolve into a mob rule. He allowed more than an hour of protests before he was able to complete his opening remarks.

And, per Independent Journal Review:

Democrats have demanded in vain to see documents relating to the three years Kavanaugh, nominated by Trump for a lifetime job on the top U.S. court, spent as staff secretary to Bush, a job that involved managing paper flow from advisers to the president. Kavanaugh held that job from 2003 to 2006.

Grassley accused the Democrats of obstruction.

“I think we ought to give the American people the opportunity to hear whether Judge Kavanaugh should be on the Supreme Court,” Grassley said.

Republicans also have released some but not all of the existing documents concerning Kavanaugh’s two years as a lawyer in the White House Counsel’s Office prior to become staff secretary.

While all this is going on, protestors have continued to interrupt from the pedestrian side of the hearing. Their protests sometimes include coherent statements that were against the nominee, other remarks were disparaging and offensive. Even more of the protests included incoherent screams and outcries:

Protests have overflowed into the Senate building as well, the Hill reports:

Women dressed as handmaids stood lining the halls on Tuesday outside the hearing room where senators will spend the next few days grilling President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The protesters in the costumes from the Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale” are with Demand Justice, a liberal advocacy group fighting Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Organizers for the group chose not to answer questions from The Hill, but provided a statement announcing they were there to ring the alarm about Kavanaugh’s “anti-abortion, anti-healthcare and anti-women” views.

“Brett Kavanaugh is an extremist ideologue who, if confirmed to the Supreme Court, will take away women’s basic rights,” the groups’ statement read.
