Trump Makes New Threat Against Migrant Caravan—Proves He Isn’t Messing Around Anymore

President Trump has expressed he does not want a caravan of migrants, which is traveling from Honduras to what could be the United States or Canada, to cross into the U.S. and is utilizing all options available to him as president to prevent it.

As the caravan continues to travel North, Trump has put out calls to presidents and other heads of states to stop it and has even threatened to pull financial support from countries who fail to do so.

While it is not yet clear if the calls have made any impact, Trump is continuing to exhaust other options.

Fox News reports Trump’s latest move could stop the caravan dead in its tracks:

President Trump warned Thursday he will “call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER” with Mexico if officials there don’t stop the northward flow of a growing migrant caravan that’s swelled in size to about 4,000 people.

The president’s latest threat against the caravan that originated in Honduras – and which is heading to the U.S. in a bid to escape Honduras’ poverty and violence – comes as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is heading to Central America to talk with leaders about the issue.

Trump threatened that if Mexico was unable to stop the caravan, then he would use the strength and capabilities of the U.S. military to stop it.

The threat was made in a series of tweets the president posted on Thursday morning. In the rant, Trump said Democrats were to blame for weak existing immigration laws.

“I am watching the Democrat Party led (because they want Open Borders and existing weak laws) assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to U.S.,” Trump said in one of the tweets.

He added, in another: “In addition to stopping all payments to these countries, which seem to have almost no control over their population, I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught – and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!”

As Independent Journal Review reports, the caravan might be adding more people to its numbers through the long journey:

More Honduran migrants tried to join a caravan of several thousand trekking through Guatemala on Wednesday, defying calls by authorities not to make the journey after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to cut off regional aid in reprisal.

The migrants hope to reach Mexico and then cross its northern border with the United States, to seek refuge from endemic violence and poverty in Central America.

Several thousand people are now journeying in the caravan, according to a Reuters witness traveling with the group in Guatemala, where men, women and children on foot or riding in trucks filled a road on their long journey to Mexico.
