Two People Shot, Critically Wounded During Incident At Indiana Middle School

It is being reported that two people, one teacher and one student, have been shot and critically wounded during an incident at an Indiana middle school. The shooter has since been taken into custody.

On Friday, an armed individual walked into Noblesville West Middle School in Noblesville, Indiana and fired off several rounds.

As WDTN reports, the suspected shooter is a male student:

The teacher was shot while taking down the shooter and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. The teen was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Families have been notified.

Additionally, another student is being treated at Riverview Health with a fractured ankle.

“There a male student at Noblesville West Middle School who has been detained,” said Kevin Jowitt, Noblesville Chief of Police. “We believe he is the involved suspect. We have no reason to believe that there is any kind of a threat connected to this anywhere else.”

As Fox News reports, “[Noblesville Police Department Chief Kevin] Jowitt said he did not believe there was any further threat to the school but added there was a threat directed to Noblesville High School, where many middle school students were bused to following the incident.”

“[Jowitt] said police were at the school’s campus monitoring the scene. A number of agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were on the scene investigating the incident. Jowitt said an investigation has been opened into the shooting,” the report continued.

Per Daily Wire:

One of the victims is a 13-year-old girl; the other is an adult. Both have been transported to the IU Health Methodist hospital.

“We have two that have been injured that have been taken to Methodist Hospital. I don’t have any names. I don’t have any updates on their statuses,” said Indiana State Police Captain Dave Bursten.

Officials say the shooter is in custody, and the situation has been contained.

Police put the school on lockdown as the SWAT team swept the building, News 8 reports. According to a teacher at the school, some students were relocated to the high school while others were being “kept in closets” until they could be moved.

As Reuters reports, a teacher confronted the shooting suspect and was able to knock the firearm away from him.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this horrible situation,” Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb.

Vice President and former Indiana Governor Mike Pence similarly responded to the incident.

“Karen and I are praying for the victims of the terrible shooting in Indiana,” Pence said. “To everyone in the Noblesville community – you are on our hearts and in our prayers. Thanks for the swift response by Hoosier law enforcement and first responders.”
