Stunning New Report: Felons And Pedophiles Were Given Security Clearances Under Obama Admin

It is being reported that several hundred individuals whom held criminal convictions were granted security clearances under the Obama administration.

The Trump administration has subsequently revoked several hundred clearances.

Talk about draining the swamp.

Independent Journal Review reports the process of how one obtains such a clearance:

To get a security clearance, you have to fill out an SF-86 form. The application process is arduous and doesn’t just accept anyone. In some cases, the person reviewing your application will reach out to anyone and everyone who associated with you growing up.

“In addition, depending on the clearance, the process can be even more thorough and time-consuming. As rigorous as the whole ordeal may be, people who shouldn’t have a clearance still get one,” the IJR report reads.

NBC News reports hundreds of people were granted security clearances despite the screenings, though many of those clearances have been revoked:

A Defense Department report obtained by NBC News found that 165 defense contractors had their initial security clearances revoked last year after further investigation linked the recipients to problematic or illicit activity, including questionable financial transactions, influence by foreign governments and even felonies like pedophilia.

Counting the original screening and the follow-up vetting, more than 650 clearances have been denied or revoked by the Defense Department.

“It found that 486 applicants had their clearances denied or revoked. Of those applicants, 165 had slipped through the initial round of vetting and been allowed access to sensitive information,” NBC News reports.

The most common reason for denying a security clearance, the report concluded, was related to the applicant’s finances, with over 370 applicants being denied clearance for “financial considerations.” Felony charges were the cause for revoking 63 clearances, and evidence of foreign influence or foreign preference was found in 56 applications.

NBC News reports, “In 151 of the cases, applicants were granted an initial security clearance that was later revoked when it was discovered the applicant withheld information.”

Check out this example from the report: “In one example, a person given interim secret clearance in 2015 was discovered in 2017 to have been found guilty of raping a child prior to applying for the clearance.”

The Defense Security Service oversaw roughly 200,000 interim security clearance decisions over the past three years, according to the report. They granted few interim clearances that received the full vetting process last year as a result of its investigation backlog that is clogged with roughly 700,000 cases.
