Happening: Here’s The 65 Lawmakers Who Are Asking To Release The Memo

Republican members of Congress have repeatedly warned that the contents of a top secret memo, which is locked up by the House Permanent Intelligence Committee, is “worse than Watergate.”

Congressman Matt Gaetz just submitted a letter with the signatures of 65 lawmakers for the memo’s release to the public; the memo reportedly details FISA abuses by officials in the FBI.

Fox News reports Gaetz said (of the memo), “The activities of the last administration, the crimes that I believe were committed, & the total sham that this Mueller investigation is built on a false premise, & rotten to the core.”

Real Clear Politics reports Gaetz said people “will go to jail” after the memo is released.

Here’s more:

“I think that this will not end just with firings. I believe there are people who will go to jail,” Gaetz told host Sean Hannity. “I was very persuaded by the evidence, and it also became clear to me why Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham felt it so important to refer this matter for criminal prosecution.”

“You don’t get to try to undermine our country, undermine our elections and then simply get fired. So, I think there will be criminal implications here, and we have to underscore the point that you and Jim Jordan just made. Every single Democrat on the [House] Intelligence Committee voted against even allowing other members of Congress to see this information, so you know they’re going to fight against release to the American people.”

“What are the Democrats so afraid of? Why don’t they want the American people to know the truth about what was going on with the government, how that impacted the president, his transition, his campaign and it just seems interesting to me that Democrats don’t want us to know what the entire basis was in the first place for the Mueller probe they want to drag this out through the midterm elections to try to embarrass this president and distract this Congress from the critical work we have to do to save this great country,” he added.

Here’s more on the memo, from Daily Wire:

Republican lawmakers ignited a firestorm late on Thursday after they received a classified memo that documented extensive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse that officials described as “explosive” and “absolutely shocking.”

Sources who viewed the FISA memo told journalist Sara A. Carter that “they would not be surprised if it leads to the end of Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel investigation into President Trump and his associates.” The sources predicted that it most likely will lead to senior-level government officials at the FBI and DOJ being removed from their positions.

Check it out, via Washington Examiner:

A group of 65 lawmakers signed a letter Friday calling on House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes to publicly release a memo they say contains revelations about U.S. government surveillance abuses.

Led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., the Republicans said the four-page memo, which by a party-line vote in the intelligence panel was released to the entire House, should be released immediately along with any other relevant information.

The letter reads, “After reading the document, we were shocked and frustrated, but it has deepened our belief in the vital importance of transparency. This important memo will be of interest to anyone who cares about America and our democratic system of government.”

It continues, “We are writing to request the immediate release of this document to the public, as well as any relevant ancillary information. The audience of this document should not be limited to Members of Congress — the American people deserve to know the information it contains.”
