Liberals Are Wrong: This Is Not The First Time The Govt Has Shutdown With 1 Party In Control Of Congress And The White House

Following the recent government shutdown, Democrats are pushing a false narrative about President Trump and Republicans.

Take a look:

“Never before in the history of this nation has the government been shut down with one party in control of both Congress and the Presidency. Never,” Democrat Congresswoman Claire McCaskill tweeted.

But, she’s wrong. This is not the first time the federal government has shut down while a party was in control of both chambers of Congress and the White House.

Free Beacon reports it happened FIVE times, all while Democrats were in the majority:

Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.) on Friday falsely claimed that it would be unprecedented for the government to shut down while one party controlled both Congress and the presidency.

But in fact the government has shut down several times when the same party controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress, and every single time that party was the Democrats.

As a Vox explainer published Friday noted, the government shut down five times under President Jimmy Carter in the 1970s, when his fellow Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate. Most of the shutdowns lasted for one or two weeks, and nearly all were caused by the House and Senate favoring different abortion policies.

ABC News correctly reports this shutdown “is the first time in recent history when government operations shut down while Republicans control both the White House and Congress.”

Daily Wire reports Democrats are to blame for the shutdown, despite liberal efforts to blame Republicans and Trump:

As the Republicans and Democrats battle over a pending government shutdown, the great question becomes who is to blame. Democrats claim Republicans are to blame — if they would just pass a continuing resolution including a solution for DREAMers, all would be well. Republicans claim Democrats are to blame — Democrats can’t expect Republicans to just cave on their entire agenda to please Democrats. And both blame President Trump for his vagueness on the entire situation.

Here’s the reality: Democrats are to blame.

That’s because there is literally nothing that Republicans could currently offer, beyond a full-scale cave to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) demands, that would earn his support. And Democrats have openly stated that even if Republicans had 51 votes, they would filibuster the continuing resolution.

A statement from the White House reads:

Senate Democrats put politics above national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country’s ability to serve all Americans. We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands.

This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators. When Dems pay our armed forces & first responders we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform. During the politically manufactured , [Trump] will fight for & protect the American people.
