During a press conference on Thursday, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said employers who follow federal immigration law would be prosecuted by either him or “local prosecuting authorities.”
Becerra clarified that two recently passed immigration laws in California are now being implemented in 2018, A.B. 450 and S.B. 54.
“A.B. 450 in particular deals with the workplace and how we go about treating the information about the workplace and employees at the workplace, by employers,” Becerra said.
“Such that we try to protect the privacy interests of the people who work there,” the California AG continued. “And we’re not sharing information in ways that would violate the rights – the privacy rights – of those individuals and the ability of folks to work free of coercion and free of fear at the workplace.”
Translation: Illegal immigrants now have a state-protected right-to-work.
“So what we’re trying to make sure is that employers are aware that this is 2018 and there’s a new law in place,” Becerra added.
Employers throughout the state of California are unable to report the citizenship of their workers, because if the worker is in the country illegally, it would violate the new statute.
“Ignorance of the law is no excuse if you violate it,” the California AG concluded.
He transparently said, “We want our employers who are working really hard to keep our economy going and employ more folks.”

Here’s what some people are saying:
Its official..we are at war with California.

I would suggest living somewhere else..my son lived there for over 2 years…hated it. The taxes were way too high. The poverty rate in California is the highest in the nation. Maybe Haiti?

So this hypocrite will prosecute legal American citizens if they assist Federal Law Enforcement with the arrest of Illegal Immigrants. Maybe Attorney General Becerra should be charged with hindering Federal Law Enforcement.

No wonder several large corporations have been leaving CA. Now this! CA is trying to strong arm the remaining businesses. If I had a business interest there, I’d SHUT IT DOWN! I would never be complicit in BREAKING THE LAW! THROW THE LIB’S IN JAIL! #MAGA🇺🇸

ah irony….
“ignorance of the law.”
that’s like the platform of the democratic party.“We’re the democrats, we enforce two types of laws, the ones we like, and the ones we make up.”
— JacobBrannan (@JakeBrannan5499) January 19, 2018
Going from Kamala Harris to this is just par for the course here in California!
— JonPaul Romane (@JonpaulRomane) January 19, 2018
Pretty sure that jailing someone for following the law won’t hold up in court..oh wait, 9th Circuit. Insane
— Bo Porter Steele (@Stelkr8zBo) January 19, 2018
Let’s just get E-verify in place…there won’t be anyone to tattle on if they aren’t employed in the first place

Feds need to take over California. This is getting ridiculous. Hey Left coast you are NOT above the federal laws of the USA!!
— CubsRSpiritual (@CubsRSpiritual) January 19, 2018
again putting the rights of persons in the country illegally above those of American citizens.
— John Burleson (@JohnBurleson) January 19, 2018
What is this world coming to? We are gonna prosecute people for following the law?
— Mickey Plyler (@Mickeyplyler) January 19, 2018
Federal authorities should take that sucker into custody now with that statement.
— Redeemed mandy (@siesienna) January 19, 2018
Um, wow ….. that won’t end well
— D (@d_beeze) January 19, 2018
