Breaking: Four Police Officers Shot By Gunman Overnight

Four police officers were shot and wounded early Tuesday in South Carolina as they were responding to a domestic call, according to Fox News.

The gunman is 47-year-old Christian Thomas McCall. He has been taken into custody.

“The sheriff’s office can really use your prayers and your thoughts,” York County Sheriff’s spokesman Trent Faris said about the wounded officers.

Authorities were responding to a domestic call just after 10 p.m. Monday in York, about 25 miles southwest of Charlotte, but the suspect had already fled the scene on foot when they arrived, Faris said at a Tuesday news conference.

McCall’s father-in-law told WSOC-TV McCall was assaulting his wife before the situation escalated. He said it was “uncharacteristic” for McCall to act violently toward police.

McCall reportedly began to fire when K-9 officers were sent to the scene around 1AM. He also reportedly shot at a police helicopter, which was hit by a bullet but otherwise unaffected.

The other three officers who were shot, three County Sheriff’s deputies, were hit around 3:30AM while they were searching the woods.

The conditions of the gunman as well as his four victims are not known at this time. Names of the victims have not yet been released.
