‘The View’ Co-Host Said People Who Think Jesus Talks To Them Suffer From A ‘Mental Illness’

On Tuesday, co-host of “The View” Joy Behar said people who believe that Jesus talks to them through prayer suffer from a “mental illness.”

The co-host said it amounts to “hearing voices” and her comments were similarly echoed by fellow co-host Sunny Hostin.

The segment focused on a recent interview of former White House staffer Omarosa, who said Vice President Mike Pence prays and believes Jesus tells him things, Washington Times reports:

Vice President Mike Pence’s Christian faith was mocked on ABC’s “The View” on Tuesday as the co-hosts mulled his relationship with Jesus Christ.

Omarosa Manigault-Newman, President Trump’s disgruntled ex-staffer, used her status as a “Celebrity Big Brother” contestant this week to insinuate that the vice president suffers from mental illness. The claim — “he thinks Jesus tells him to say things … Scary” — served as fodder for jokes by ABC’s Joy Behar.

“I’m Catholic. I’m a faithful person,” [Hostin] said. “But I don’t know that I want my vice-president … speaking in tongues and having Jesus speak to him.”

And Behar took things to another level, invoking mental illness in the discussion about Pence’s purported conversations with Jesus.

“It’s one thing to talk to Jesus. It’s another thing when Jesus talks to you,” she said. “That’s called mental illness, if I’m not correct. Hearing voices.”

Sherri Shepard attempted to chide the panel by admitting she is a Christian, that she prays, and that Jesus tells her things.

“As a Christian, that’s just par for the course. You talk to Jesus, Jesus talks back,” Shepard said. “What concerns me is, how long is the conversation with Jesus?”

Behar then took a swipe at Pence’s dedication not to meet alone with a woman.

“My question is whether he can talk with Mary Magdalene without his wife in the room,” Behar remarked, much to the enthusiasm of her fellow co-hosts.
