Leaders from the United States and North Korea are set to meet in the upcoming weeks for the first time in their history. The historical meeting followed an announcement by North Korea to discontinue their missile tests and nuclear advancements if they could score a meeting with President Trump.
“Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze,” the United States President recently tweeted. “Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached.”
“Meeting being planned!” Trump added.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently confirmed the meeting, via Fox News:
The decision to meet with Kim Jong Un in the coming weeks was one that President Donald Trump made “himself,” U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Friday, attributing the move to a “dramatic” change in posture by the North Korean leader.
“President Trump has said for some time that he was open to talks and he would willingly meet with Kim when conditions were right,” Tillserson said during a visit to the African nation of Djibouti. “And I think in the president’s judgment that time has arrived now.”
According to Tillerson, the U.S. has seen a shift in Kim from “not just willingness but really his desire for talks.”
The highly anticipated meeting was positively accepted by regional powers involved in the US-North Korea tensions, including China, Russia and South Korea, Fox News reports:
China’s foreign ministry said it hopes all parties to the dispute will “show their political courage” in restarting negotiations, and pledges its support in working toward that goal.
— Advertisement — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was quoted by Russian state news agency Tass on Friday saying — during a visit to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa — that Russia considers the move by Trump and Kim to be “a step in the right direction.”
South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said, during a visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, that her government was consulting with the U.S. on the planned summit — and hopes that if it does take place, “it’s a meaningful meeting with good outcome.”

As Twitchy reports, former Obama administration National Security spokesman Tommy Vietor disagreed with Trump’s decision to meet with the “homicidal dictator.”
“Why would the Trump administration announce this like it’s an accomplishment?” Vietor mocked Trump in a tweet. “It’s a conversation with a homicidal dictator not an invitation to the Met Gala.”

Several people who replied to the Obama-era official, reminded him that former President Obama previously took a meeting with Raul Castro to help restore US-Cuba relations.

Come on man. Not a Trump fan, but at least show a morsel of consistency. Or…scrub your timeline.

Some others criticized how Obama handled differing international relations:
Well, it’s not like he’s delivering pallets of cash on a dark runway to a state sponsor of terrorism intent on nuclear annihilation of Israel or anything.
But it’s his first year. https://t.co/7TFHrxYfbl

Please. The lone Obama foreign policy “achievement” was an abject surrender (with cash prizes) to an Islamist state sponsor of terror.

Sure beats handing over $billions in exchange for broken promises

As Twitchy also reports, former Obama staffer Ben Rhodes also chimed in to the discussion over social media.
“Interesting to watch the…different Republican / Fox response to Trump’s announcement than to Obama call with Rouhani and meeting with Raul Castro which were both preceded by extensive U.S. diplomacy. I hope DPRK diplomacy succeeds, but success depends upon diplomats,” Rhodes tweeted.

He too was criticized:
You flew gobs of cash in the middle of the night to Rouhani. Cuba wasn’t a threat. https://t.co/GxFRvaBrms

Like how the diplomats n experts help NK advance their nuclear capability n capacity in the last 20 years?
— Scorpi (@ScorpiScorpi808) March 9, 2018
Clearly, it does not depend on diplomats. It depends on force and fear with NOKO. Please start paying attention, Ben. He’ll get it done without a $4billion bribe to boot just to make you, @SamanthaJPower and @BarackObama look even more incompetent.
— PoliticalRodeo (@politicalrodeo) March 9, 2018
Right…. because Iran worked out so well and Cuba just microwaved our embassy. Trump is gonna handle this guy like a true leader.
