Moments after FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, several Obama-era officials voiced their disagreement with the decision.
Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder noted the timing of the firing, just two days before the Deputy Director could have retired with full pension benefits, was “cruel.”
Holder also took a swipe at President Trump, calling him “increasingly erratic” and “dangerous.”
“Analyze McCabe firing on two levels: the substance and the timing,” Holder tweeted. “We don’t know enough about the substance yet. The timing appears cruel and a cave that compromised DOJ independence to please an increasingly erratic President who should’ve played no role here. This is dangerous.”

Former CIA Director John Brennan said Trump exhibits “venality [and] moral turpitude” and said the President will go down in history as a “disgraced demagogue.”
“When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known, you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history,” Brennan tweeted. “You may scapegoat Andy McCabe, but you will not destroy America…America will triumph over you.”

David Axelrod, who served as a senior adviser to Obama, also responded to the firing and said Trump “ordered the hit.”
“If you had any doubt about whether the McCabe firing was an act of retribution, here is a flagrant victory dance from the man who ordered the hit, Axelrod tweeted. “He just couldn’t resist.”

As Washington Examiner reports, none of the officials recognized that suggestions for McCabe’s firing came from the FBI:
McCabe has rejected reports from the FBI’s Office of Personal Responsibility and Office of Inspector General, which concluded he made unauthorized leaks and made disingenuous statements under oath.
In a statement late Friday that there has been an effort to “slander” him and accused the push to remove him as being part of the Trump administration’s “ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation,” which is looking at whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.
Check out how some people responded to the Obama officials:
This is just flagrant dishonesty. The report that got McCabe fired came from within the FBI. https://t.co/lqIYYZ2sJw

Washington Examiner reports McCabe’s firing may not be the last time the now-former Deputy Director makes headlines as he previously predicted he would be a “significant witness” in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation:
Speaking to Politico earlier this month, McCabe said he “firmly” believed that there was an “ongoing effort to undermine my credibility because of the work that I did on the Russia case, because of the investigations that I oversaw and impacted that target this administration.”
With Mueller reportedly looking into whether Trump obstructed justice, McCabe claimed he might play a role.
“They have every reason to believe that I could end up being a significant witness in whatever the special counsel comes up with, and so they are trying to create this counter-narrative that I am not someone who can be believed or trusted,” McCabe said. “And as someone who has been believed and trusted by really good people for 21 years, it’s just infuriating to me.”
In his statement responding to his termination late Friday, McCabe said the “attack” on his credibility was also part of the Trump administration’s “ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation.”
