SCARY: California Tried To Adopt Official Communist Workers’ Holiday

California is slowly becoming a communist utopia and it looked like the state tried to take the next step in embracing the move: they voted to legislate an official communist workers’ holiday in the state.

The new paid holiday would subsequently remove the nationally designated “President’s Day” in the month of February for “International Workers’ Day,” or “May Day” as its also known.

As Fox News Insider reports, “May Day” is often observed in countries under Communist rule and was an official holiday of the Soviet Union.

Per the report:

A California assemblyman vehemently argued against a bill that would adopt International Workers’ Day as a paid holiday.

The bill, introduced by Assemblyman Miguel Santiago (D), would designate the third Monday in February “as a single school holiday to be known as ‘Presidents’ Day.'”

“Are we in competition to become the laughingstock of the United States?” Assemblyman Matthew Harper (R) asked. “This is ridiculous. This is insane.”

The bill would subsequently get rid of either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln’s birthday as a holiday and designate May 1 as “International Workers’ Day.”

Check out how some people responded:

“Seriously, the substitution of adding International Socialist Workers’ Day? May Day? The day of parades in the Soviet Union?” Harper added. “I’m aghast that a bill like this would be able to get through committee.”

“Are we going that far to the left?” Harper asked, per the Daily Caller. “This is ridiculous; this is insane; this is un-American. And for folks who think that the U.S. won the Cold War with the Soviet Union, this makes it sound like we’re going in the other direction — that indeed California is kowtowing to the Soviet domination of the Cold War.”

Fortunately for the rest of the country, the bill failed miserably.

“The Assembly read the bill three times and refused to pass it by a 27-22 vote on Thursday. But Santiago submitted a motion to reconsider it on the same day. Bill AB-3042 previously passed both the Assembly’s appropriations and education committees,” the Daily Caller reports.
