Bill Maher Wants An Economic Collapse To Spite Trump: ‘Sorry If That Hurts People’

Democrats can’t touch President Trump on the economy. His Midas Touch has the stock market booming, unemployment at record lows, consumer confidence at a record high, and for the first time in history there are more job openings in the United States than there are people without one.

With crucial congressional elections just around the corner, liberal comedian and television host Bill Maher said he’s “hoping for” an economic collapse.

Why? To spite Trump, or rather, to have him removed from office.

As Mediaite reports, “Bill Maher is very passionate about removing President Trump from office by any means necessary.”

Maher made the comment on his show as he and his panel were discussing whether the United States should prioritize giving jobs to people in the country illegally over citizens.

Then the host segued into talking about the economy, “Could I ask about the economy? Because this economy is going pretty well.”

The comment reportedly caused political commentator Shermichael Singleton to laugh off-camera.

Here’s what happened next:

“What? Why was that funny?” Maher asked.

“It is going well… for now,” Singleton responded.

“Thank you, that’s my question,” Maher continued. “I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point. And by the way, I’m hoping for it. Because I think one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy. So please, bring on the recession. Sorry if that hurts people, but it’s either root for a recession or you lose your democracy.”

On Saturday, during a “Fox & Friends” segment, Fox News contributor Pete Hegseth said that Maher’s comment reflects what many liberals are thinking but won’t say themselves.

Here’s more, from Fox News Insider:

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 223,000 jobs were added last month.

It also noted that unemployment was at 3.8 percent, the lowest so far this year.

“Who wants to root for people losing their jobs and a bad economy? No one does,” he said. “But in the back of their mind they’re saying, ‘how do we beat this guy in 2018, especially in 2020? Well, the economy’s got to tank.’”

Maher was criticized over the comment by Trump supporters and opponents alike:
