BIG: Harvey Weinstein Arrested In New York, Bond Set To $10 Million

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was arrested on Friday morning in New York. More than seven months after the movie mogul first faced accusations, he has turned himself in to face criminal charges, including a rape charge.

“He was subsequently arrested, processed and charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for alleged incidents involving two separate women,” ABC News reports.

“The NYPD thanks these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice,” the NYPD said, per the report. “The arrest and ensuing charges are the result of a joint investigation between the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”

Here’s more:

Weinstein, 66, has been accused by dozens of women of sexual misconduct and has been investigated by the New York City Police Department, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the New York Attorney General’s Office, the Los Angeles Police Department and U.K. authorities. He has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.

The criminal sex act charge stems from an allegation brought by Lucia Evans, who has said Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex during what she thought would be a casting call. The rape charge stems from an allegation by a woman who has not been publicly identified.

Evans told Ronan Farrow of The New Yorker magazine last year that Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004.

CBS News has more:

Weinstein agreed to post $1 million cash bail, wear an electronic monitor and not travel beyond New York and Connecticut.

“This defendant used his position, money and power to lure young women into situations where he was able to violate them sexually,” Manhattan Assistant Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon said in court. Weinstein raised his eyebrows as he heard it.

He didn’t enter a plea. That’s common at this stage in a criminal case in New York.

According to the report, more than 75 women from across the globe have accused the former producer of unwanted sexual exchanges.

As Fox Business reports, after Weinstein was first accused by dozens of women, he was removed from his post leading the Weinstein Company and the business was later sold:

Weinstein will be charged over an allegation by at least one accuser, Lucia Evans, a former aspiring actress.

Weinstein has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone.

Earlier this month, a Delaware bankruptcy judge approved a private equity firm’s purchase of the Weinstein Co., the studio forced into bankruptcy by the sexual misconduct scandal.

Dallas-based Lantern Capital emerged as the sole qualifying bidder for the company.
