Kanye West Voices Support For A Conservative, Nearly Breaks The Internet

Musician and record producer Kanye West is nearly breaking the internet after voicing support for conservative commentator Candace Owens. The unusual show of support runs against the grain of what people expect of Hollywood insiders, especially in the Trump-era when many celebrities are going out of their way to distance themselves from the president and conservatives.

West said simply, “I love the way Candace Owens thinks” after she and fellow conservative Charlie Kirk hosted a speaking event at the University of California. During the event, a number of protesters began shouting from the back row of the conference room and disrupted the conversation.

Owens addressed them directly:

What you’re seeing happening today – obviously, we have some black people that are just shouting in the back and we have some black people that are sitting in the front quietly that are chanting ‘USA’ and having a normal conversation – I love that because what I say every single time, and you may have seen me on the news, is that what is happening right now in the black community, you’re going to hear it in this room first.

There is an ideological civil war happening, black people that are focused on their past and shouting about slavery and black people that are focused on their futures, okay?

That’s really what it comes down to, okay?

I can guarantee you, what you’re seeing happening is victim mentality versus victor mentality.

And there’s no doubt in my mind, I can tell you right now, who is going to be better off when we look [ahead] 20 years and we look at the things in the room, who is going to be better off.

She continued, “Victim mentality is not cool. I don’t know why people like being oppressed.” Owens then cited several instances of American oppression, like slavery and the Jim Crow era, “which, by the way, none of you lived through.”

Your grandparents did and it’s embarrassing that you utilize their history and you come in here with more emotion than they ever had when they were living through it. It’s embarrassing, you’re not living through anything right now – You’re overly privileged Americans.

Check out some of these responses:

Owens herself responded, “I tell every single person that everything that I have been inspired to do, was written in your music. I am my own biggest fan, because you made it okay. I need you to help wake up the black community.”

People continued to celebrate:

West has previously been supportive of President Trump and the two met shortly after Trump won the 2016 presidential election.
