Wait, What? Ocasio-Cortez Said U.S. Should Defeat Global Warming Like It Defeated Nazis

New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the United States should do more to stop global warming and defeat the “existential threat” of climate change.

She made the comment during a town hall in College Point, in her district of New York City, but she probably should have stopped right there because her next line sent some people online into a frenzy.

As Free Beacon reports, she said the U.S. should defeat climate change using the same blueprint it used to defeat Nazi Germany in World War II.

“When we talk about existential threats, the last time we had a really major existential threat in this country was around World War II, so we’ve been here before, and we have a blueprint of doing this before,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“None of these things are new ideas, but we have is an existential threat in the context of war,” she continued. “We had a direct existential threat with another nation and at this time it was Nazi Germany and Axis, who explicitly made the United States as an enemy, and what we did was that we chose to mobilize our entire continent and industrialize our entire continent, and we put hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, to work in defending our shores and defending this country.”

And, from Free Beacon:

She went on to say that the United States needs to adopt the same blueprint in order to get the United States to 100 percent renewable energy, adding that it may seem like “radical” plan, but it’s a necessary one.

“But the fact of the matter is that we are dealing with a radical truth and radical reality and the more that we choose to ignore it, the worst we are doing by our children, our grandchildren, and frankly ourselves,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.

Ocasio-Cortez has made the environment one of her staple issues during the campaign. Back in August, she tweeted that “Americans are dying because of a government too coward to save the planet” and that Congress needs a “Green New Deal” for everyone to survive.

Some people online playfully suggested that she meant the U.S. should use its military to repeat the world’s most iconic beach landing and conduct air raids into Germany’s capital. But, how does attacking Germany help the Earth? They’d jokingly add. Check it out:
