ALL OR NOTHING: Trump Torpedoes 2 Democrat Funding Proposals After They Failed To Fund Border Wall

President Trump recently refused to sign two Democrat proposals to fund the government which did not include border wall funding, showing his commitment not to open the government without it.

From BizPac Review:

Democrat congressional leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer released a joint statement Monday in which they proposed two bills that would end the ongoing government shutdown. Less than 24 hours later, the White House shot the bills down as a “non-starter.”

Pelosi and Schumer sent out a joint statement after proposing the two spending bills where they praised their contents and said they had bipartisan support.

“The first bill would reopen all government agencies except for the Department of Homeland Security – not taking a position on the President’s wall,” the Democrats leaders wrote.

“It would simply continue the funding levels and language that both parties have already supported. The second bill would extend the Department of Homeland Security’s funding through February 8th, which Republicans already supported in recent weeks.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement over Monday evening and into Tuesday morning which said Trump stands ready and waiting for Democrats “who so far refused to compromise.”

“President Trump made a serious, good faith offer to Democrats to open the government, address the crisis at our border, and protect all Americans,” Sanders said in the statement, as BizPac Review reports.

“We have heard nothing back from the Democrats, who so far have refused to compromise. Speaker Designate Nancy Pelosi released a plan that will not re-open the government because it fails to secure the border and puts the needs of other countries above the needs of our own citizens,” Sanders continued.

And, “The Pelosi plan is a non-starter because it does not fund our homeland security or keep American families safe from human trafficking, drugs, and crime.”

BizPac Review adds:

Late last month House Republicans passed an omnibus spending bill that included funding for the wall. Because of obstruction by congressional Democrats, who refuse to fund the wall, the bill remains perpetually stalled. The government entered into a partial shutdown as a result.

President Donald Trump has made it clear he won’t sign any funding bill that excludes funding for a southern U.S. border wall. The goal by the Democrat congressional leaders vis-à-vis their new plan is to sidestep the president’s demands using a sly funding trick.

The plan they proposed would separate the wall issue from everything else so that the rest of the government can continue to function. This would allow Congress to debate the wall funding issue without affecting the rest of the government. There’s just one problem.

As the president has noted time and time again, the Democrats have no interest in doing anything to stop the incessant flow of illegal immigrants across the southern U.S. border.

As Fox News reports, the two proposals came after President Trump invited the congressional leaders to the White House.

“Border Security and the Wall ‘thing’ and Shutdown is not where Nancy Pelosi wanted to start her tenure as Speaker!” Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday. “Let’s make a deal?”
