At least according to social media, Democrats may have found the new face of their Party. The 2018 congressional midterms resulted in a new wave of young Democrats being elected to Congress and new members, like New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—who generally hold much more progressive views than the Left establishment—have recently surged on Twitter.
If their social media base is any indication, Ocasio-Cortez is now more popular than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Washington Examiner reports.
Ocasio-Cortez now has 1,884,235 million followers, compared with Pelosi’s 1,852,397 million. Other freshman congresswomen, such as Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., lag far behind Ocasio-Cortez, with a comparatively small 370,000 and 183,000 followers, respectively.
Those numbers have since jumped to over 1,963,755 followers for Ocasio-Cortez and 1,860,643 followers for Pelosi.

According to the Washington Examiner, Ocasio-Cortez received a surge of support after a video of her dancing in college recently surfaced.
The tweet had the congresswoman trending on the social media platform and resulted in one of her most popular tweets.
“I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous,” she said in the tweet, which showed her dancing in front of her Cannon House Office Building. “Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too!”
Ocasio-Cortez often faces criticisms for progressive ideas that are on the forefront of her legislative agenda, like Medicare-for-all, forcing the rich to pay way more in taxes, and a top focus on climate change.
The New York congresswoman defended herself and the ideas during an interview with “60 Minutes” where she said “only radicals have changed this country.”
“Sometimes we take for granted exactly how radical ideas like Social Security, the VA, and public schooling really are: that we will care for our elders, provide healthcare, and educate *all* children in America free of cost at the point of service,” Ocasio-Cortez added in a tweet on Friday.
