Democrat Quotes Reagan To Protest Border Wall… BIG Mistake

California Democrat and potential 2020 presidential candidate Eric Swalwell is facing backlash for referencing President Reagan to argue against a border wall.

In a tweet over the weekend, Swalwell said “‘Mr. Gorbachev, put up a wall,’ Said no President.”

The tweet is an obvious reference to the Republican U.S. President telling former General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union to tear down the Berlin Wall in Germany.

Conservatives were quick to criticize Swalwell for the line, which caused the Democrat to return to the sentiment.

As Twitchy reports, Swalwell doubled down, tweeting: “My favorite part of the conservative outrage responses to this tweet is the ‘but the Berlin Wall was to keep people in’ argument. Missing ENTIRELY that a wall is a wall no matter what side of it you are on.”

“It’s medieval. It’s a symbol of ‘us and not us.’ And that is not U.S.,” Swalwell added.

“You’re a dope,” one user tweeted, while another added: “if this is the kind of logic congressional people use, we are in a heap of trouble.”

“I bet your neighborhood has a wall or gate& you need a pass to get in,” another user responded.

Conservative pundit Allie Beth Stuckey passed Swalwell’s comment off as a “low IQ statement.”

“A great way to hide your inability to contend with an argument is to laugh it off as ‘missing the point.’ What a low IQ statement,” she tweeted.
